By next week I will be moving my whole workplace to a different city here in Mexico to be exact that place is Cancún. I couldn’t be more excited, I’m really looking forward for the new challenges and interesting projects and hanging out with good friends I haven’t seen for awhile.
One of the main reasons for me that made me took this decision besides the violence and how insecure life is out here nowadays,
is the approach companies and investors have for the web in this city. The lack of entrepreneurs interested in investing on the
online market for quality web products is almost nonexistent, which is sad since Cd. Juárez should be the place where interesting ideas and products could get a jumpstart. It’s really hard to work on projects that you have to finance for yourself, like i did with Publijuarez and Mis alertas. Also the existence of public groups of developers interested in open source is null in this city. I feel guilty for not starting to create a group or community but then again I never really meet other hackers interested in helping out.
What we need is a local online central platforms for open source developers to meet, share ideas and show their skills. Also it’s time for the local government to get involve with open source technologies, there should be an annual Rails day, a PHP
day, SQL contests or technology weeks to encourage young programmers who are at school to start using these great technologies and also an opportunity for them to showcase their talent to investors or companies.
I really hope local government, schools and students start working together in these aspects. Nothing will make me happier than to hear great things are happening in Cd. Juárez in a near future.
